For my last blog assignment, I choose to use a piece of art that originated from the Ming Dynasty which was an Empire of the Great Ming. This dynasty of China existed from 1368 to 1644 which resulted from the collapse of the Mongol/ Yuan Dynasty. These painters that resulted from the Ming Dynasty indulged into their own pleasure and sensitivity The picture That I chose was painted by Wu Wei entitled Ten Thousand Li of the Yangtze River. This painting really shows the influence at the time during the Ming Dynasty. The use of grey and white colors suggest from a subjective point of view that presents a calming sentential mood that gives a warm impression for the audience. The artist gives the impression of texture that can be seen from the mountains in which the audience can see the visual imagery of the white clouds that atop the mystical mountain that was present during the Ming Dynasty. The part that I really like involves the village below that, at the base of the summit can the the mystical mountain which again gives the audience a idea of what it could have been like to live in that village and to see such an incredible mountain during the Ming Dynasty. The artist uses a fine diverse technique to display the white background mountain range to give the audience a up front focus on the village and the rocky mountain side. The use of texture presents the audience with the visual effects of rocks and cliffs that complete the mountain side in the painting.

The subject that i choose for this assignment would come from the culture of Africa. The Monkey Dance Project (1) – mixed media (50/40cm) 1996 which was created by Antognoni Brunhoso shows the inspiration from the African Tribe. If you notice how the tribes people walk or dance gives evidence that the inspiration comes from the natural habit that the tribe lives in. If one was to notice the intense colors that were used in this painting could result in the true iconic environment that the tribe was accustom to. The white silhouette which as a black outline gives reason that this is related to the natural inhabits of the African land. This shows how the culture was view by the tribesmen and how the artist viewed his own culture which results in a understanding of his cultural past. The artist or Antognoni Brunhoso, also used the intense colors to illustrate the bold elements that were present in that time frame. The green colors could represent the fire in which the tribesmen danced around to celebrate their cultures past and future. The picture also has a shadowed image behind the silhouette could possibly show, as a subjective approach that either, the tribe is reflecting on their history, or in a lighter sense could be reflecting on their future. I personally think that the artist put the tribe in a picture frame to emphasize that the tribe feels that their people should be the center of attention or rather the emphasize on the mother country.

Relational art can be defined as a type of art that encompasses a set of artistic practices which employ a form of departure from the traditional style of creating a art piece. This form of art utilizes the social and human perspective instead of a independent private space. These art works provide for a medium which requires a social gathering in order to appreciate the entire surroundings of the art piece. It also provides for a community like entertainment that a population could critique all at once. Thus, in relational art works, the audience is engaged as a community rather than a close encounter between an individual and the object of work. The six artist that I used for this theme are Liam Gillick, Angela Bulloch, Felix Gonzalex-Torres, Gillian Wearing, Jens Haaning, and Philippe Parreno. And now on to the tour of relational art of the 21st century. The exhibit is shown below in the form of comments below the text of the artists.

The first stop on our tour begins with Liam Gillick and his masterpiece Oneunitofenergyoneunitofoutput. His masterpiece ” One unit of energy, one unit of output”, “two ideas two actions”, “three units of input three units of stability”, and “four units of decision four units of operation” which are transcribed on the outer structure of the ring pillars by the main entrance of the Lufthansa Aviation Centre add an abstract version of a entrepreneurial activity which involves the audience or community that attends the aviation centre. This Central idea of this structure is that first it follows the relational art theory that incorporates the audience as a community which gives a stable view of the structure which has populations surrounding it. And Second, the symbolic meaning portrays the world which revolve around energy and output, the idea and the action which has true characteristics of relational art because it leaves the meaning open to context for the audience to relate to in their own personal way.

The next stop on our tour involves the artist Angela Bulloch, whom created a complex yet overwhelming sound and light installation for the Hamburger Bahnhof, the Museum Fur Gegenwart in Berlin Germany. Ultimately the disenchantment of the forest is also a disenchantment of art, whose stage techniques which include space, time, sound, light, n which these elements are exposed by the artist. Once again, the structure follows the theme of this tour: relational art which once again incorporated a art medium that leaves the population or the public open to interpretation of the art itself.

Next on the tour is the artist Felix Gonzalex-Torres, whom created an installation for the Museum of modern Art in New York City entitled Projects 34 This project was on display from May 16 to June 30, 1992. Once again, like I stated before in the above projects, the art follows the theme of relational art because it requires the impressions from the surrounding population which can conclude their own subjective or personal thoughts about what it is that they are looking at and second, what they feel while looking at the piece. Two pillows in a white bed could suggest anything…which is exerted what the purpose was intended for.

The fourth artist on this tour of relational art would include the artist Gillian Wearing, the art piece is entitled The sleeping Mask. This piece of art once again leave the audience open to interpretations due to the complex yet simple exploration of a figure that is latex and sleeping. This to me represents a individual whom is tired and exhausted from her life which competes for rest in a timeless place in her frontal cortex of the mind. The mask looks peaceful which to me subjectively speaking determines that if an individual is exhausted, to place the mask in their lives to gain a sense of replenishing rest due to a tiresome life.

The fifth artist on our relational art tour would be Jens Haaning, the art piece An Average Austrian Year Income. This piece to me represents the income of a Austrian within a years time. Now this relates to the theme of this due to the faction that in order to understand this work, one must be an Austrian to relate the culture and life that one individual would acquire in a years time when living in Austria. In addition, Haaning deals primarily with the question of how society constitutes itself and how power is communicated within a given society.

The last stop on the tour of relational art would be the artist Philippe Parreno. The subject work is The Boy from Mars in which Parreno test and pushes the bounders or abstractism and relationism. In addition, Parreno also pushes the fictional state and realistic state of the art project and the meaning which is to be interpreted between the audiences. In much of his work imaginary constructs are appropriated and transferred to the tangible world. He gave, for example, a ‘real’ life, death and even scent of Japanese culture. Lastly, this piece follows the theme of relationism and the art that takes place which allows the artist to interact with the audience by creating a piece which gives the individual person a chance to explore there own thoughts.

This completes the tour of relational art and below in the comments include the works of art by each of the six artists that pioneered relational art.

For my blog assignment, I choose the play by Eugene O’ Neill entitled “A Long Days Journey into the Night” .This play to me represents the social status of many families whom lived during the early 1900′s. during the early 1900′s many individuals were plagued with anxiety and dysfunction which tended to disrupt the normal status of the individual, in this case, the entire family. this play incorporates many themes which include addiction which results in the dysfunction of the entire family whom struggles to maintain there respect and love throughout the night. the story takes place around midnight in Connecticut USA. The addictions include Alcoholism and morphine addiction which forces the family against each other which results in each family member seeking affection and encouragement from each other but only ends in a conundrumof internal conflict and resentment. the story presents a family of Irish immigration with has a modest status of wealth and a economic standing. The story takes place before the during World War I in which the father Tyrone developed a military like physique and status. Because of the war, many families lived in a realm of anxiety due to the deaths and disastrous consequences of the war. Because the US wa s in a transitional state of isolatism which ended due to the sinking of the RMS Lusitania, many families like previously stated, were in a flux of anxiety while the tensions of the war proceed. The story provides an insight to the practice of medicine at the time. The story or play provides information that morphine addiction was common like with Mary where the synthesis diacetylmorphine commonly known as heroin was synthesized as a substitute for morphine addiction and as a cough suppressant. As a interesting side note, along with aspirin, Bayer lost the trademark rights to heroin under the 1919 Treaty of Versailles following the German defeat in World War I. Along with the pharmaceuticals drugs, the mycobacterium which is known to cause the infection tuberculosis was common among individuals during that time. In the story, the younger son, Edmund, was thought to have caught the infection during his time working as a merchant navy solider during the first world war. The play is all the more tragic because it leaves little hope for the future, much like many individuals felt during the first world war. I really like this story because i can relate to some of the dysfunctional aspects of this family and the trials and tribulations that they endure. The Tyrone family is not a unique family, and it is easy to identify with many of the conflicts and characters. Here is a quote by Ric Burns. “In America before World War I, there was a cultural resistance to theater dealing with serious things,” says Burns. “After the carnage of the war, there was a tremendous reaction to the shallowness of Broadway. O’Neill decided to be true to what he knew best–granite reality.” which is all so true. Subjectively speaking, i think that this play was excepted among the African American cultures due to there pass and current state of term oil dealing with the stress and tension from oppression. Again, subjectively speaking that their culture could easily identify that although tension will cause stress and discomfort, which again could be associated with any family helped many African American families to cope and deal with their own trials and tribulations.

As a subjective understanding, the impressionism era was needed, regarding it’s acceptance as a whole, the impressionism direction was needed to push art in a way that would help develop and help art gain stability throughout the audiences and cultures. The 1800 served as a beginning movement that started in Paris and manifested throughout the world. the movement had certain characteristics that are loosely associated by the artist own interpolation to give a impressionistic feel though the colors and methods of stroke techniques. The compositions like Berthe Morisot “Reading” 1873 put an emphasis on light and the qualities that are associated with the painting to give a warm, sutle, style. The painting although depicts the subject of a women whom is sitting on the grass reading a book presents not just the subject, but the style which provides warm colors and the illumination of light that surrounds the subject. This gives the impression of how the day was and how the time flowed around the subject. This gives a crucial element of human perception and experience. In addition, Claude Monet “Women with a Parasol” 1875 shows a women on a Windy day. The painting gives an impression that with the colors and brush strokes give the imagery of a overcast day where there is a slight wind on a cool summer or spring day. These paintings which incorporate the expression of the artist and to the impression that the artist wants the audience to perceive could all be subjective due to the way the artist paints the picture.i personally like the post-impressionism movement better due to the different forms of expression and the bias artist whom created them. I personally like Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night which like the impressionism movement Incorporated the surroundings and style instead of the subject, but used different patterns of color, lines, and arrangements of shapes. In addition to van Gogh I like the method of using dots to form a picture like in pointillism. These show a more abstract methods which to me really give an impression.

For the assignment for blog #3 I chose to write about the inspirations that I have achived through the musical masterpiece moonlight sonata by Beethoven. This song has inspired music from many generations by allowing the expression of musical melodies would include 3 movements that would take the audience on a ride through history that was Beethoven deepest emotions from a departed soul. The very essence that Beethoven tried to acquire was the fundamental essential ideology that was very basic understanding of what the music was like in those times around the classical era. As a subjective idea, this song was the very essential form that music has followed though the transitional years. Beethoven even coined the term “Quasi una fantasia” which was translated to a fantasy though time. The way that this song incorporates the melodic flow could be corralled to the humanistic behavior of the middle class. The very metaphorical reference that the middle class is consistency undergoing transitional periods just like the movements in the moonlight sonata which was the inspirited quality that Beethoven wanted to achieve. The sonata was classified into elements entailed Adagio sostenuto, Allegretto, and finally Presto agitato. These 3 movements could like before be a transitional reference to how the middle class was represented during those times. The status of a person whom was in the middle class had the economic resources available at there command however there was many forms of uncertainty in there lives due to the economic mortality that was in there futures. The first movement to me shows the quiet progression of life as a middle class citizen which would in the coming movements would gain stability, while at the same time being subjected to inconsistency that would be a lethal trait in there lives. To me as an subjective approach i feel that the moonlight sonata encapsulates me as a person whom has experienced inconsistency in my life.

Below is a link to youtube that shows the inspired moonlight sonata by Beethoven.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQVeaIHWWck

If you follow this link you would experience the power and inspiration from this song. During the classical era many people were undergoing theory changes which as a consequence lead to the instability of the current society that Beethoven was subjective to. Therefore it would stand to reason that this song helped clarify the direction of the classical era by inventing a new sonata form that would be echoed though out history of music and the composition of the music.

Prelude from Cello Suite No.1

Johann Sebastian Bach

For the second blog assignment i chose to criticize Johann Sebastian Bach’s Prelude Cello suite No.1 which is a prelude from Bach’s cello series. This is derived from a short piece of music which during the Baroque era had served as an introduction to longer movements that are usually more complex and more elegant in structure and form. This prelude forms the beginning structure to a melodic and rhythmic motifs that were also inspired by past movements from the Renaissance period. The structure that was used included arpeggiated chords which could be heard though out the other cello suites as well. Sebastian used the guidance of the council of Trent mannerist style by composing music that reflected the human perspective as well as the desire to compete and succeed. The cello series also has a developed realism style that allows the audience to relate and reflect though the music that was created in this series. This lead to a more accepted and understood style of verse along with an accessible score that allowed the people to indulge into their emotions and into their feelings as individuals. This movement was also during the age of scientific observation which was also added to the melodic scores of the music industry. During which the observations included the discovery of bacterium and body fluids. In addition the movement was during the age of planetary observation which lead to the discovery of planetary motion with Kepler’s laws of planetary motion and the study of optics which would also lead to the invention of the telescopic lens. In addition to the scientific influences there were some political contributions as well. During the time that the movement was produced was also the time of the thirty year war between The Hapsburg, Spain and the Holy Roman Empire vs. Denmark, France, Sweden and parts of Germany.Religious element to the war between the Lutherans, Catholics and Calvinists also added tension due to the religious conflict that appeared in the region. The rise of the Netherlands came to be due to the decline of the Spanish rule which lead to the essential merchants and trades people became interested in the arts. this is an essential turning point due to the economic struggle during the thirty years war. Overall this cello component has added economic stability by allowing the rich and powerful to indulge and relate with this piece of music. Overall this period of enlightenment would not be complete with out the musical additions of Bach which was marked the ending of the Baroque period with the death of Johann Sebastian Bach, however the cello suite No.1 will still live on due to the musical contributions during the Baroque era.

<img data-attachment-id='15' data-orig-size='317,404' data-liked='0'width="117" height="150" src="http://fsant6.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/sofonisba_double_portrait1.jpg?w=117&h=150" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="sofonisba_double_portrait" title="sofonisba_double_portrait" />

For the first blog assignment, i determined to share the painting by sofonisba Anguissola which is entitled “The double portrait of a lady and her dog” The painting was performed on a oil on canvas which has no correlated date. This painting is symbolic in nature due to the status symbol of women in the reassiance movement. The painting shows a women which her child and the child’s dog. The painting shows the symbolic relationship with the women and her dog. The painting gives a warm feeling of stability which a women whom seems wealthy with a child whom is content which the family dog in place by the side of the young child. The artist used the shade of red to provoke the mood of a calm relaxing feeling that seems transitional to the artist and to the audience that the painting is projected towards. This painting is characteristic of some humanism traits which gives a emphasis on human reason, spirit, and physical beauty. The fundamental relationship between a child and her dog in contrast which the mother. An intense religiosity could be found in this painting that could extend into a religious informality which could be found. The painting could be symbolic due to the nature of the status of women. This painting shows a political standpoint that could have been critical to the evolution of female rights. Although the painting was not during the sack of Rome, the events or the war did have an influential expression to the artist whom felt the imprecations. The painting also depicts the styl of dress upon the women in royaltiy. The velet red in uniform with the room which shows wealth in context. A number of the earliest Mannerist artists who had been working in Rome during the 1520s fled the city after in 1530′s. This could also be in reference to the spread of the culture pass the cross-culture gender barriers that existed years before. This really gives a shade of color on the mannerisms in the Renaissance in regard to gender status. This is essential when looking at and anzalying how painters derive their ideas in regard to there societies that they live in and communicate with in the neighboring regions. I believe that this painting really captivates the emotion of the times in regard to a different gender prospective.
