Classical Era Blog #3

June 29, 2009

For the assignment for blog #3 I chose to write about the inspirations that I have achived through the musical masterpiece moonlight sonata by Beethoven. This song has inspired music from many generations by allowing the expression of musical melodies would include 3 movements that would take the audience on a ride through history that was Beethoven deepest emotions from a departed soul. The very essence that Beethoven tried to acquire was the fundamental essential ideology that was very basic understanding of what the music was like in those times around the classical era. As a subjective idea, this song was the very essential form that music has followed though the transitional years. Beethoven even coined the term “Quasi una fantasia” which was translated to a fantasy though time. The way that this song incorporates the melodic flow could be corralled to the humanistic behavior of the middle class. The very metaphorical reference that the middle class is consistency undergoing transitional periods just like the movements in the moonlight sonata which was the inspirited quality that Beethoven wanted to achieve.  The sonata was classified into elements entailed Adagio sostenuto, Allegretto, and finally Presto agitato. These 3 movements could like before be a transitional reference to how the middle class was represented during those times. The status of a person whom was in the middle class had the economic resources available at there command however there was many forms of uncertainty in there lives due to the economic mortality that was in there futures. The first movement to me shows the quiet progression of life as a middle class citizen which would in the coming movements would gain stability, while at the same time being subjected to inconsistency that would be a lethal trait in there lives. To me as an subjective approach i feel that the moonlight sonata encapsulates me as a person whom has experienced inconsistency in my life.

Below is a link to youtube that shows the inspired moonlight sonata by Beethoven.

If you follow this link you would experience the power and inspiration from this song. During the classical era many people were undergoing theory changes which as a consequence lead to the instability of the current society that Beethoven was subjective to. Therefore it would stand to reason that this song helped clarify the direction of the classical era by inventing a new sonata form that would be echoed though out history of music and the composition of the music.

I can tell that you really like the work you chose, but you did leave out the details of it. Where was he when it was composed? What year was it? I’m not really sure I see how you made the connection to the middle class but that is the whole point in interpreting art, everybody sees something different. I got a little confused reading this but maybe that is just me. I myself have listened to the Moonlight Sonata before so I do agree with you about how good it is.
